Blood Hunger is the pressure that shapes every vampire night. It is not a second health bar or a timer you manage alongside the 30-day clock — it is the craving that makes feeding part of your plan instead of an afterthought. Get it right and the night is a rhythm; ignore it and it intrudes on your fights at the worst moment.

What the night is actually made of

By night your durability is your blood bar (Vampiric Health). Vampire abilities consume blood, and drinking restores it — so the resource you spend in a fight and the resource that keeps you alive are the same one. That single fact is the whole design: every night is a budget of blood, and Blood Hunger is what keeps you spending and refilling it.

Two consequences follow directly:

  • Human healing does not exist at night. Potions and prepared food do nothing during the vampire half. Only blood-based items and direct feeding heal you.
  • Witchcraft still works, but it is expensive. Spells cost HP to cast, and that HP cannot be recovered from food or normal potions — only from feeding or spell kills (the Frugal Witchcraft perk).

The tipping point

When Blood Hunger drops to zero — your night health bar shrunk to a single segment — your dialogue options can suddenly shift. A peaceful conversation might reveal a hidden “Give in to the hunger” choice that lets you attack and feed on whoever you are talking to.

How to manage it

  • Plan where feeding fits in the night. Decide it deliberately instead of reacting to it — a feeding spot on the way to a fight beats a scramble in the middle of one.
  • Treat the night as a resource with a budget. It is short, the hunger is running, and you are spending one of your 30 days. Pick what the night is for before it ends — a fight, a goal, a setup — and give it that.
  • Check hunger early. A craving you ignored for half the night does not go away; manage it at the start, not the end.

Feeding is also how your Corruption meter rises, so the hunger loop and the progression loop are the same loop — every bite that keeps you alive is also unlocking the next tier of the Vampirism tree. The Corruption guide covers that side, and the day/night system guide covers how the two forms split. For a full day/night schedule against the clock, the time ledger works out the split in days.

Frequently asked questions

What is Blood Hunger?

It is the blood craving that runs through every vampire night — a pressure that builds and forces you to plan feeding as part of the night rather than an afterthought. There is no separate hunger bar to watch; the clue is in your dialogue options, which shift visibly when you are desperate.

How do I restore health at night?

Only with blood. Human consumables — potions and prepared food — do nothing during the vampire half. You heal by feeding (drinking from a person, animal, or monster) or from blood-based items. Witchcraft spells still work but cost HP that cannot be recovered from food or normal potions.

What happens when my hunger hits zero?

When your night health drops to one segment, your dialogue options can suddenly shift — a peaceful conversation may reveal a hidden "Give in to the hunger" choice that lets you attack and feed on whoever you are talking to. It is not a bug; it changes NPC relationships, so choose deliberately.

Do I have to feed every night?

You have to feed enough to stay above the danger line. If every night ends with you scrambling to feed, start managing it at the beginning of the night. A hunger spike during a fight is a fight you have already half-lost.
