Night Terrors is a two-entry mystery pinned to the cathedral courtyard after dark. The journal files it under The thirty days and records Svartrau City as its region — an NPC band of roughly 15–25 — with the question stated plainly in the introduction: “Strange sounds can be heard in cathedral’s courtyard at night. What causes them?”
Where the quest sits
This is a night quest in the most literal sense; both of its entries depend on being in the courtyard after dark, which is the same courtyard A Monk and a Saint uses for its howling investigation and A Dubious Gift uses for the almshouse lead. The journal’s two entries stop at the bottom of the well, and nothing in our objective data records what is found there, so expect the answer to come from the scene rather than from a further numbered step.
Journal objectives
The journal records these two entries, in this order:
- Locate the source of howling — “I can hear some weird, howling noise when standing in the courtyard at night. What’s going on?”
- Explore the bottom of the well — “Seems like the howling noise is coming from a dried-up well. Maybe I can find some answers if I go down there.”
Why it is worth the trip
Night Terrors is the kind of content the journal’s middle chapter is built from. The thirty days is the open chapter — nothing forces its nineteen quests in any order — and alongside it run the three vassal arcs, Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe, which are the only genuinely mandatory content in the mid-game. Everything at the level of this quest is optional, and optional is where a build comes from: the region’s manuals, relics and gear are spread across exactly this kind of short, self-contained quest.
Before you go
The 15–25 band means this is safe to slot in whenever you are already in the capital, and both steps happen at night, so plan the trip around the day-night cycle. The day and night dual-form guide covers what the night side changes, and the Svartrau guide is the location reference for the cathedral district.
