The Blood of Dawnwalker lets Coen grow close to three companions, and the game is deliberately gentle about it: you can court all three, you will not be punished for the occasional awkward moment, and nothing you do permanently locks a romance away. Below is how each path opens and the choices that move it forward.
The three companions
| Companion | Who they are | What gates the path |
|---|---|---|
| Anca | The village herbalist, human — patient, secretive, teaches Coen to read | Story quests + a few pointed confessions |
| Crake (also called Marat) | Mortal rebel leader, wary, first meets you at knifepoint | Enough Infamy to unlock his chain |
| Lacra | A Vrakhir — the only supernatural option, driven by revenge | Clearing A Friend Like This first |
Anca
Anca is woven through the early village quests.
- Prologue — When you fetch herbs for your mother Esme, stay rather than leave, and ride out the storm to save all eleven herb plants and bring them back; it earns her trust.
- Echoes of Silenced Bells — Finish it (it does not change the relationship but opens the next flirtation).
- Between the Words — Brew tea while you read, pick “It’s my pleasure,” then press with “Always? What do you mean?” and “Your feelings towards me — it’s more than just faith” to confess.
- Where Old Devils Lie / Stronger than Achilles — Stay curious about what she finds, and when she wants to use the Font, let her: “Go ahead. Make what you will with it.” Drinking the Font of Life yourself makes her hesitate later, so leave it to her.
- Returning to the Inn — After the confession, answer “I meant what I said” → “Screw decency, I want you too” → “Not sure I got that. One more time?” for the intimate scene.
Crake (Marat)
Crake asks for a reputation before he opens up.
- Raise your Infamy until Where Loyalties Lie unlocks, then clear his full chain: The Firebrand, Shadows in the Woods, Where Loyalties Lie, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead, Who Pulls the Strings, Distant Shadows, and A Closer Look. How you complete them does not matter.
- After the chain, find him brooding on the hillside and offer to train. Walk the dialogue: “May I join you, then?” → “I’m worried about you, and I’d like to help.” → “I know what this is about.” → “He was a manumit once, wasn’t he?” → “Ascar is your father, isn’t he?” → “Why?” → “Hey, nothing you say can change the way I see you.”
- When he moves to kiss you, kiss him back.
Lacra
Lacra only enters the picture once you’ve dealt with another vampire.
- You must first clear A Friend Like This (against Ambrus); his corpse’s notes reveal her. After the fight she stands down and asks for help against Brencis.
- Run her chain: The Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, The Night of Horrors.
- After Our Rotten Roots, don’t rush out of the cave — keep talking to learn her plan. In The Night of Horrors, warn her the parley with Brencis is a trap, accept and share the Mandrake, drink when she offers her blood, and when she asks what feels better, choose the kiss.
Planning your routes
- No missables, but mind the gates. Anca and Lacra open through story progress; Crake needs Infamy, so if you are playing a “good” low-Infamy run, build some reputation early or his chain stays shut.
- You can do all three. Spread your attention across the quest lines and the game lets you keep every relationship alive.
- Romance is separate from endings. Court whoever you like; it will not pre-select your conclusion.
