Song of the Mountain is the climb: the uriash keep their village up a mountain, and the journal’s step list is mostly the journey there. It is filed under The thirty days with Rockfalls as its journal region — an NPC band of roughly 10–16. The introduction states the plan: “We know where the uriash village is and how to get there. We should head on over there and ask their Elder about the whereabouts of Isbrand, Brencis’s sire. He may know the knyaz’s weaknesses we can use when we strike.”

Where the quest sits

Lacra is central here: the quest opens with a night meeting near Crown Rock and a hunt, and it ends with a decision about her that the journal writes out both ways. The uriash Elder is the other named figure, and the quest’s real objective is what the Elder knows about Isbrand — which is what Hive and Seek then acts on and Our Rotten Roots picks up afterwards. This is the first main quest in the chapter where feeding is a numbered step rather than an optional system.

Journal objectives

The journal records these 22 entries, in this order:

  1. Find out where Isbrand is — “Our next step – the uriash village. We need to talk to the uriash Elder about Isbrand and where to find him.”
  2. Meet Lacra near the Crown Rock at night — “I agreed to meet Lacra near the Crown Rock after nightfall. The path to the uriash village is nearby.”
  3. Hunt with Lacra — “Lacra suggested we feed before going up the mountain. She spotted a lonely man not far from her hideout – our perfect victim.”
  4. Feed on the victim — “We found our prey. Time to feast.”
  5. Climb the mountain with Lacra following the windchimes — “We know where to go – the uriash village is up the mountain and the path filled with guiding chimes.”
  6. Climb the mountain following the windchimes — “Lacra wasn’t around – I was late. She might’ve gone ahead. But I know where to go – the uriash village is up the mountain and the path filled with guiding chimes.”
  7. Find the windchime — “Something’s ringing through the air on this mountain path. A windchime? I’m curious. Where is it?”
  8. Follow the windchimes — “We can hear the windchimes the uriashi set up to lead to their village. We should follow the sounds.”
  9. Win the duel — “I took on the uriash guard’s challenge. If I win – we’ll get to go inside the village.”
  10. Follow the Elder — “The uriash Elder agreed to tell us what happened to Isbrand. We ought to follow her to her hut.”
  11. Defeat the guards — “Talking to the uriashi is pointless. Lacra went ahead to find the elder, I’ve got to deal with the guards. Then, we find Isbrand.”
  12. Find Lacra — “I should find Lacra. She should be somewhere in the uriash village.”
  13. Defeat the uriashi — “They’re defending the village, trying to stop us from entering. But they can’t – it’s time to put an end to this.”
  14. Go to Lacra — “Good. That’s done. I should find Lacra now, deeper in the village. See if she got to the Elder.”
  15. Defeat the uriash Elder — “We found the uriash Elder but she won’t speak to us… unless we make her.”
  16. Talk with the uriash Elder — “I should go see the uriash Elder and hear her out. She knows where Isbrand is.”
  17. Talk to Lacra — “I should grab whatever I need before we descend into the caves, then talk to Lacra when I’m ready.”
  18. Talk to Lacra to search for Isbrand — “Lacra slaughtered the uriashi and I didn’t want to have anything to do with her, but perhaps I need to swallow the bitterness and take what allies I can get… Getting Brencis might be more important than principles.”
  19. Talk to Lacra when ready to descend — “Lacra will wait for me to prepare before we descend into the caves. I should find her when I’m ready to go.”
  20. Talk to Lacra to work with her again — “I told Lacra I would go my own way, but perhaps it was a mistake. I might still catch her if I’d rather have her on my side.”
  21. Defeat Lacra — “Lacra slaughtered the uriashi in cold blood. I will not let her get away with this.”
  22. Ask the Elder about Lacra — “We entered the uriash village, but Lacra disappeared somewhere. I have no idea where she went – maybe the Elder will know?”

Before you go

The 10–16 band makes the mountain path manageable mid-chapter, but the quest asks for a night start and includes a feeding step, so go in with Blood Hunger under control. If you are routing the chapter, this quest and A Friend Like This both point at the village; run them close together so the travel pays off. The mid-game walkthrough covers chapter routing, and the Lacra character page collects what the journal records about her.
