Denarii and Vendor Prices: How the Economy Works

By DawnwalkerWiki Last updated: September 29, 2026 Verified on version 1.0 (launch)

The Blood of Dawnwalker runs two economies at once. One is time, and the world guide puts it plainly: the valley’s real currency is days, not distance. The other is Denarii — one coin, a large catalogue of priced goods, and a small network of vendors who buy your loot back at a fraction of what they sold it for.

One coin, one currency

The catalogue contains exactly one currency item: Denarius, described as “A round gold coin marked with Brencis’s coat of arms.” It is worth 1 in both directions, which makes it the base unit every other price is expressed in. There are no regional currencies, no gems-for-gold conversion and no premium tender in the verified data.

What the catalogue is worth

Of the 1,054 catalogued items, 813 carry a buy price and 811 carry both a buy and a sell value. The other 241 are priceless — not because they are legendary, but because they sit outside the money economy entirely:

  • 80 readables (notes, letters, journals)
  • 73 quest items
  • 51 catalysts — the soul-compelling objects such as bloodied knives, relics and letters
  • 38 keys
  • 1 consumable and 1 recipe

Prices span 1 to 5,000 Denarii, but the median is just 34, so the catalogue is dominated by cheap goods and a thin top end. The single most expensive entries are the Potent-tier recipe scrolls (up to 3,281), Silk Threads and Shiny Tooth at 5,000, and Flask of Quicksilver at 4,000.

The sell-back rule

Selling is deliberately lossy, and the data shows how lossy:

  • 84% of priced items sell for between one-eighth and one-quarter of their buy price.
  • The single most common ratio is exactly one-sixth — about a quarter of all priced items land there.

The practical reading: looting and reselling is a supplement, not an income. A 500-Denarii item is roughly 83 Denarii in your purse. If you are saving for a big purchase, the money comes from completing content and selling the 105-item trade-good tier.

The price ladder by rarity

Equipment rarity is a clean price ladder in the gear database, which is what makes vendor shopping predictable:

RarityItems pricedCheapestMedianMost expensive
Superior2093098160
Master158144235400
Epic126408632756
Unique419581,4633,750

The tiers barely overlap, so a rarity badge is a reliable price bracket. It is also a reliable guide to what you can afford early: Superior and Master gear is pocket money by mid-run, while Epic and Unique pieces are genuine decisions.

Where the money goes

508 of the 555 equipment items in the database are vendor-sourced — more than quest, boss, loot, treasure and preorder rewards combined. Vendors are the main way gear enters the game.

The named prices are the memorable ones:

  • The Purge — 3,750 Denarii from the Silver Trader in Svartrau City, or looted instead from a headhunter miniboss in the swamps east of Briar Sloughs at Infamy 6. That dual source is the general pattern the Infamy system describes: reputation can replace money.
  • The Prizewinner and The Runner-Up — sold by the Rebel Blacksmith and the Premium Weapon Vendor, both with stock that rotates daily.

The vendor network

Twenty-three vendor points are mapped across seven regions — ten in Svartrau, three each in Maragir Wealds, St. Tyna and Rockfalls, two in Laslea, and one each in Boars Back and Briar Sloughs. By trade:

  • 5 Armourers and 5 Blacksmiths — gear upgrades
  • 3 Food Vendors, 1 Butcher, 1 Grocery — consumables and cooking goods
  • 3 Merchants — general stock
  • 3 Witchcraft Vendors — manuals and reagents
  • 1 Silver Trader and 1 Sanzhana Merchant — the named, high-value stock

The specialists are where the interesting stock lives. Ten vendors have recorded stock lists, and what they sell is a map of their role:

Reading the economy like a player

Three habits follow from the numbers: sell loot early, because the buy-back never improves; buy by rarity bracket rather than by browsing; and keep the two currencies apart, because Denarii buys gear and manuals but never buys days — the 30-day timer is the budget that actually constrains a run.

Frequently asked questions

What is the currency in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Denarii. The catalogue holds exactly one currency item — Denarius, a round gold coin marked with Brencis's coat of arms — and it is the base unit of every price in the game.

Do I get full value when I sell items?

No. Selling back recovers a fraction of the buy price. In the item catalogue, 84% of priced items sell for between one-eighth and one-quarter of what they cost, and the single most common ratio is exactly one-sixth.

How much does endgame gear cost?

Unique gear runs from 958 to 3,750 Denarii, with a median around 1,463. The highest verified price in the database is 3,750 Denarii for The Purge, bought from the Silver Trader in Svartrau City — or looted instead from a headhunter miniboss.

Where are the vendors?

Twenty-three vendor points are catalogued across seven regions, with ten of them in Svartrau. They include five armourers, five blacksmiths, three food vendors, three merchants, three witchcraft vendors, a butcher, a grocery, the Silver Trader and a Sanzhana merchant.
