Fall Before Dusk is the manumit assault on Greifberg Castle: a secret tunnel in, a false siege outside, and a run at Brencis while the castle is busy. The journal files it under The coronation, the endgame chapter, and records no region — its entries run from the tunnels beneath the castle to the prison, the courtyard, the throne room and beyond. The introduction lays out the plan: “It’s time to infiltrate Greifberg. We’ll enter through a secret tunnel and strike at Brencis, while Catalin’s troops keep him busy with a false siege. The castle falls before dusk!”

Where the quest sits

The journal names Marat as the companion for the infiltration and Catalin as the commander outside, with Ambrus, Bakir, Brencis, Skender and Xanthe all listed among the quest’s people. The step list is a full castle run: the tunnels and their dead scouts, the prison and Coen’s family, the courtyard, Ambrus, Xanthe’s magical trap, and a chase after Brencis that ends in the throne room. It is one of the two endgame routes, alongside Midnight Reckoning.

Journal objectives

The journal records these nineteen entries, in this order:

  1. Inspect the tunnels — “Marat’s scouts are nowhere to be seen. We must inspect the tunnels beneath the castle to ensure it’s safe to pass.”
  2. Reach the ladder — “Marat’s scouts set up a ladder, so they should be somewhere nearby.”
  3. Check the rest of the tunnel — “Marat’s scouts are dead. We need to check the rest of the tunnel and find out what killed them.”
  4. Defeat Bakir — “That madman Bakir ambushed me and Marat in the dungeons, blocking our way to the prison cells. We need to get rid of him as quickly as possible.”
  5. Defeat the Warden — “The prison warden blocked our way to the cells. We need to deal with him as quickly as possible.”
  6. Find a way to the courtyard — “We must find a way to the courtyard and see how the siege goes. But it won’t be easy. The castle’s on high alert now.”
  7. Talk to the manumits — “A few manumits are holed up by the gate. I should ask them how things are going on their end.”
  8. Look for your family — “We’ve made it into the prison. My family should be locked up here. I must find them!”
  9. Look for any prisoners willing to fight — “We’ve made it into the prison. Maybe some folk locked up here will be willing to join our fight? Either way, we should free them all.”
  10. Enter the castle — “The courtyard is cleared. Next, the castle.”
  11. Defeat Ambrus — “Ambrus is too proud for his own good, and loyal to Brencis beyond reason. We have to take him down.”
  12. Defeat Ambrus’s lieutenants — “Loyal to the very end, those men still serve Ambrus, even after his death. But they’ll soon follow in their master’s footsteps.”
  13. Find the throne room — “Now that we’re inside the castle, we need to join Catalin and his men in the throne room. But which way is it?”
  14. Escape Xanthe’s trap — “We’ve got ourselves caught in a nightmarish loop, a magical trap woven by Boyaress Xanthe. There must be some way out of this nightmare.”
  15. Chase after Brencis — “Brencis slipped away from me, but I won’t let him escape!”
  16. Find Brencis — “Brencis is still in the castle. Toying with me, taunting my every step… I’ll hunt him down, even if it’s the last thing I ever do.”
  17. Defeat Brencis — “Using my family as a vicious welcome is Brencis’s last act of cruelty. This nightmare ends with him – here and now.”
  18. Defeat Xanthe — “Xanthe is the last vrakhir standing between me and Brencis. I came this far, I won’t let her stop me now.”
  19. Defeat Xanthe’s lieutenants — “Xanthe’s blood slaves are the last thing standing between me and Brencis. I’ve come this far, I won’t let them stop me now.”

Before you go

This is the endgame route that assumes the manumits are behind you and the vassal arcs are resolved — the journal’s own entries meet Bakir, the warden, Ambrus and Xanthe on the way in. The final prep guide covers what to have finished, and the Brencis boss guide covers the fight the quest ends on.
